eliminating wrinkles

I am pretty new at composites, and am laying up Uni carbon over a foam core. I make sure my cloth is soaked properly, and then I get all the bubbles out with my brush and a spreader, but after bagging, I always end up with a cloth wrinkle. I can sand them out, but am thinking I am probably doing something wrong.

I do notice that when I vacuum bag, my bag krinkles all over the part. Should I attempt to keep it flat?

thanks for any help!

Are you using a thick perforated film and breather on the layup? Sounds like the bag is directly on the part, which will make the wrinkles create “veins” in the excess resin.

I lay release ply very flat onto the part, just like if it were another layer. It’s not very thick stuff though. Then I put the breather ply on, it’s very thick, and then the bag… but parts of my parts get big wrinkles or veins through them.

Hmmm, seems like you’re doing everything everything ok.
Are you rolling or squeeging out much resin, or is it very wet on the surface?
Is the release ply perforated? Poking more holes in it might help, or maybe a different ply that allows more resin to flow through.

I started using my plastic spreader on the bag itself while drawing the vacuum. I hadn’t been before. Now that the bag forms smoothly on the part, no more wrinkles!
thanks for your insight! it led me to the answer!
