Use them before not that great. These work pretty good.
Thanks for the tip on the scissors. I’ve seen these in several places and was wondering about them. Now I’ll try 'em.
I hope the quality of the EC Cutter is better now than some 8 or 10 years ago. I had a fair deal of problems with the batch of 100 I bought at the time. For thicker materials (450 grams and upwards) hand scissors are faster.
For vacuum materials they are OK, however.
Bosch produces the new cutter called Xeo, and the price is less than EC cutter
Anyone have any new news on the best electric scissors? Has anyone ever used a rotary electric scissor on dry carbon fabric before? Does it work?
One of my main fabric types is a 670gsm/20oz carbon, I guess based off of Herman’s rec the EC cutter won’t fair too well with something that thick? Anyone have any experience cutting such a heavy fabric with the EC cutter?
I’ve used them on dry carbon, glass and kevlar. They work fairly well Just need to be sure to go slow enough or sometimes a tow will get past the blades and then you gotta stop and snip it clean. The heavier fabrics are a pain for the light duty scissors possibly a more robust scissors would be better.
I’m considering just picking up the Skil rotary cutter. 40 bucks so it’s hard to go wrong - if it can’t cut the heavier fabrics, then i’ll at least get some easy cuts of my consumable stack out of it.
Hoping it’ll work well with a 20oz though.
If you get that, let us know how it works.
For $35 and two day shipping, that’s not a bad deal.
So quick update - the scissors do indeed cut the heavier weghts of carbon, but because of the shape of the metal feeding guides it doesn’t necessarily make the cutting action any easier. Also keep in mind that I was doing completely straight (or as straight as I could get them with these electric scissors…) cuts with the warp/warp removal method depending on which way I was going.
The electric scissors are GREAT for chopping up the more complicated consumables, such as peel plies (fabrics) and infusion meshes.
Since I wasn’t happy with the electric scissors I decided to give another pair a shot, but this time manual ones:

10 inch shears for 11 bucks shipped through Prime, so I figured I can’t really go wrong - and I didn’t! they’re great, and I highly recommend them. I had a 40 dollar pair of scissors that are specifically classified as ‘Kevlar/carbon’ shears, and these cut better than them IMO. And…they’re eleven bucks… They aren’t serrated so that might make it a bit more difficult when working with Kevlar, but they slice through my 20 oz carbon beautifully.
I have used this one for some time and I found it very effective on prepreg and with very durable blades:
