Edwards spare parts

I just bought an Edwards E2M8 pump for very cheap! Optically, it’s in near new condition but the elastomer coupling is defective and needs replacing. I checked with a dealer here in Germany and they quoted me € 179.- plus tax and postage. Looking on ebay, an expensive generic coupling the same size tops out at € 40.- all in! Is there any reason not to use one of those?

Here’s the one I’m considering:

If that one fits, then use it.

Leybold charged me Euro 2200 for some replacement parts for a Trivac pump. A replacement pump cost me 150 euro…

Pumps I sell right now, are sometimes even cheaper than that (new). Once broken, toss it.

This is the disadvantage of A-brand pumps, I fear. Consider yourself Lucky that it is a simple part, not a broken vane or so.

It worked a charm! This thing pulls the deepest, fastest vacuum I’ve ever been able to achieve!

Herman, I use Leybold as well. Which model/models do you have?

I tried to secure some replacement parts for an Edwards pump I bought, and Edwards USA was a very worthless company to try and work with. In the future, I would use a competitor, simply due to the substandard level of customer service they provide. Maybe in Europe their branch is better, but Edwards USA is someone I won’t want to work with in the future, they won’t even respond to emails.

The Leybolds that I had were Trivac 10 pumps. I tossed them all.

I haven’t owned any of the 10 models, only 16-A’s and B’s. They’ve held up great at 30"hg for days at a time.

Are you using an oil filter system along side ?

Which pumps are you preferring these days Herman ?

At this moment my choice depends on the situation.

For smaller parts I like the relatively high vacuum airco style pumps, like these: http://www.vacuumsystemen.com/losse-vacuumpompen/evd-ve-series

but for larger projects I have built systems with more Industrial pumps, which have regenerating oil exhaust filters, and have higher capacity. (I know, capacity is overrated, once the bag is down and closed well, but the larger the project, the sloppier the work, moulds and plumbing.
