DUCATI Multistrada Rear Tail

HI Guys,

with pleasure I introduce you the first rear custom tail for Multistrada. The prototype was made from the plastic tail and the rear seat together. I use hard papers and A LOT OF PUTTY POLYESTER. After that I make the first Mold but honestly was disaster. Bad curves, corners etc but it was something to start. So I make the first part and then again a lot of putty again and again. Finally the product was ready and I made some small corrections. I create the mold again and here it is:

After that I gave this part to painter shop and make me the colors for professional paint look

VERY nice work!

I will post some photos in some days on the bike.

do you gelcoat your parts before laying fabric and resins?

Very cool looking part!

Yes of course. I put first crystal clear geal coat on the mold and after cure then the whole other materials.

Hi there,

very good stuff

but my question:
you give the first crystal coat and left cure… when start with cf and another coat of resin dont creat a kind of poor conection bettwen? for instance , is possible that one day that the crystal coat come off because you let it cure?

great job

This happen only if the geal coat is not compatible with the resin. When you are using Epoxy clear coat you have to use epoxy resin if not then maybe (not everytime) you have some problems. Honestly, I use in the past polyester gel coat and epoxy resin and is perfect without problems. Now if you use Epoxy gel coat and polyester resin then you have big problems

hummm

so i coud give on the top coat with clear or crystal epoxy resin, let it cure, and the start the layup or infusion?

Correct and my way is infusion.

heheh,

ok i will try infusion and take some pictures… hope comments to improve…

Thank’s

ps- i love that tail

I just saw this post after posting in your first one, so you apply a crystal clear layer of gelcoat, let it cure completely hard and then lay the reinforcement… do you use spray glue to lay the top layer?

thanks again

I love looking at your work but you need to use a different back drop. From a business standpoint the colors are obnoxious. Its like typing a report in Comic Sans MS lol.

Not busting your balls, but its harder to look at your great work with those backgrounds :).

lol…

Yeap Airtech 2 or something similar!!!
