Ducati & Ktm

Gentlamen,

Below you see my last project for Ducati Bike and KTM bike:

Looks really sexy George!

I see youve figured out how to make it slick and shiny!

yes, really thx

the side pieces.
I see 2 bolt holes, but are there any any other attachment points on the other side of the piece?
like little points that push into the frame, etc?

still trying to get ideas on how to do that for my bike pieces.

alot of people omit the push pegs and use velcro.

You can make the pegs but it will be a total pain in the arse.

what a smeggin’ good idea!!!

thank you!

Great work!

Question, why are your parts black around the edges? Others can answer aswell.

my money says its to cover up the ugly edge where he had to trim it out.

Motorcycle parts suck for that…we have lots of holes with nothing shoved in them. So you try to make it look as good as you can.

I still get people asking me if I can “finish” the backside of parts.

Wait till you make some…youll have every critic in the world up your keester.

so it’s just paint along the edge?

I thougth it was a production technique of sorts to make a clean edge, or perhaps pooling of resin due to bridging by the edges of the mold…

I’m still a bit confused:confused:
Similar thing on these ducts…

Wow…how is a mold for that even made???

Based off the picture used Id say it was made out of several molds and seamed together.

I think the black line is covering up a blem prone area. It looks like it could be seamed based on the unlikely angle change.

but the weave of the carbon looks like it matches perfectly…

so do the weave lines on FZ1’s tail section…he seamed his tail together as well. He just uses a different technique for hiding the seam line.

Youll find that youre gonna need to make creative solutions to problems that arise from part making.

You have no idea how many people ask me if I can finish the “inside” of a part. I try to explain to them that my molds are one sided and the costs of making a compression mold would price the part out of reach…some dont get it.

Then I get people who want a rounded, smooth and shiny edge to the part. You can sand and trim out a part all day and it still isnt like what they expect out of “plastic” parts.

Remember they expect it to look like it was made like an injection part is made but cool like a carbon part looks cool.

Image is everything in this industry and misdirection from obvious techinicalities is paramount in happy customers.

Ive taken the approach of using “finishing putty” a light sandable and paintable bondo on all my exposed edges to help smooth them up and keep people from complaining. It adds a bit of time to my parts cost but I get half the inquiries about if they got a part that had a problem.

youll find ways to make people happy and not kill yourself.

good stuff, but then I guess I’m confuesd as to what is meant by seaming a part together as you put it.

is that taking 2 seperate and complete carbon parts and then bringing them together to form the whole? or does seaming mean laying 2 seperate pieces of carbon in the mold in a way to make it look “clean”?

As hybridracers says,

You can make a very good end with the black colors especially for bikes product. But to tell you the trough I start to make this end not because for better ends but because looks very nice. The customers seems to accept it and like it too.

Inside there is two more attachment points. The attachment points I make it with carbon & polyester. I take one angle-iron and I cover it. After cure I cut it in pieces of 2-3cm wide and thats it. For the Ducati I make it through lathe and plastic tubes and on special attachment I make the prototype with hard paper.

George, I lookied at your website and saw that you have blue yellow red and orange “carbon” materials, where did you get these?? is there a company website?
Thanks.

What was that “rolled edges” thread about? I can’t remember, all I know is had something to do with edges.
