Hi guys i have tried a million times and this is really frustrating as i keep on getting dry spots on the area shown with blue color on the attached image, ohh the red part is the laminate, is there a technique that you can share in order to overcome this. i’m attempting to make a mirror part and i’m using 200g 2x2 twill CF. the only issue is around the 90 degree bend which runs along the old for about 30cm. this is slowing me down due to the post filing work i need to do by filling up these dry spots. any help will be greatly appreciated
i would add a single fiber to that edge just like wyowindworks does in that video https://vimeo.com/album/2476678/video/35648020 in 5:37.
Hi jimff1, thanks a lot for the tip, i will try it out tomorrow.
Place fabric well in the corner, make sure your vacuum is perfect and degas your resin. Most times this happens because of bridging.
Or your mould is not tight in that corner so that air can travel through the mould. That will also cause a dry spot.
Spend more effort when placing the fabric into that tight of a form. Make use of a equally shaped compress tool like a board or bondo spreader. Be methodical.
It may also help to make what is know as an Intesifier/caul plate. You could make them budget minded with tube silicone caulk and tape, but it will require days to cure before use.
It will end up looking like a triangle strip that is placed along that corner and on top of your flow media just before you bag.
Mix a filler and Make a fillet in that sharp corner before you lay the fabric
Infuse “down” the trouble and not across [90 degree turn in direction of infusion].
Thanks Worldwealth, @ one point i also thought of the pressure intensifier approach.
Thanks cheekybrad, i will definately give this a try
Thats a good idea, so you run with it instead of over it.
Guys thanks a lot for all the info you have shared, i gave MTI a try over the weekend and i was amazed by the results, the part came out perfect no dry spots or pin holes, now my next approach is to try the same approach but now with a normal spiral. this time around i degassed the resin and hardener separately then carefully mixed after degassing then slowly infused.
