We produce kiteboards consisting of a PBT skin, eglass, carbon, corecell form, carbon, eglass, PBT skin and ABS side trim. all wet layedup and vacuumed with a doubled sided bag, clamped to an adjustabel A/B mold.
We are considering switching from wet layup to VIP, however, besides the expensive and unflexable RTM/LRTM process we haven’t found any method to have two finished sides or a way to incorporate our PBT skins on both sides. Have we missed some process? Would it be possible to use the same build, use a perforated/scored core and two resin ports at the boot location. Would need to delete that ABC edging perhaps. Is it possible to add the PBT later? Do you part VARTM/RTM and then add the PBT skins in a heated closed mold. Else, you can TRY to score/channelize the core to use is as a flow media and see if that works out. I’ve done carbon sandwiches like that, but not on the size scale you are talking about. (pure vartm, not rtm/lrtm)
