Digital Cameras

Anyone know a decent digital camera for around $400? I have a Kodak one that cost me $120 at Target stores. It just doesn’t give any close up detail that i’m looking for. But at the time I bought it to just get me by.

I’d like a D60 like my photography buddy has…but $$$$

Canon Powershot S3IS I bought one for my wife in May,she likes it.Paid about 425.00 @Bestbuy.

back to this thread after a while.

I just picked my lady up a Nikon D70 (digital SLR) with 18-55mm lens, battery+ charger, and 512mb memory card.

It was $400 used (looks brand new!), but so well worth it, that camera is amazing.

I second that. The S3 is a great camera.

Beachcamera.com has them for $289.00 right now. I paid $400 out the door with a 1 gig card, lenz barrel adaptor, and polarized filter.

FAST: If your looking for close up detail the S3 has a “super macro” mode.

I recomend Sony’s 2700mah rechargeable batteries.

I test a lot of camara at work & found many great camara for under $400.00. You need to consider your intended use though. A full frame camara like a digital SLR does take great photos but many just collect dust because they are just too bulky to carry around unless you are into man purses. There is a lot to be said about a compact camara that you can carry in your front pocket.

Whatever you buy really look at the power supply. Li-Poly batteries out perform Ni-MH AA cells but can be damaged easily if they are charge improperly.

If you live in a sunny area make sure the camara has an optical view finder. Even the best LCD screen will be washed out by sunlight.

I personally like the L74 Wide.

At Fastrr,
You may want to invest in some better lighting. Unless your planning on doing some hi-end photography, your $120 Kodak may be all you need. I’ve found that my camera, Canon digital slr, takes better pictures in natural light and proper studio lights. Invest in a softbox for your close up pictures. Also adjust your camera to the “Close” setting. look for the little flower icon.

i have two Kodaks now and i can get 2-3 inches away and come up with stunning detail. ones an old DX7630 and the newer one is a V803 i like them both. decent pricing, tons o options, and pretty easy to use.
