This happened after I sanded to even out the surface. I didn’t sand into the cloth though. What might be the cause of this?
It looks like you didn’t scuff the surface before applying more epoxy. I assume this is a lamination job. You need to make sure you scuff the surface up for the resin to bond to the previous layer if you’re not laying them on wet in their “tack” stages…
How do I know that I scuffed the surface sufficiently for the resin bonding? Also, when I prepare the surface, should I scuff down to the wood or just minimal layer of the original clear coat? I had some hard time laying up the fabric on the wood pieces because the resin didn’t seem to bond with the wood surface. Plus, i’ve never done wood working before.
Just wondering - if you wanted to let the first layer cure completely before adding more, would using peel ply give an appropriate surface finish where you could just peel it off and start laminating the next layer right away?
I think if you applied the first layer evenly and not too much, you would get an appropriate surface right away. However, shouldn’t you sand it a bit so that the next layer of resin has something to stick onto?
