delamination issues with silane finish?

Hello, on a couple of recent infusions using glass fiber I’ ve had problems with the laminate delaminating. Infusion went well with no voids and I’m using the same glass style, Bis A epoxy and latent curative that I’ve always used. The only difference is the glass is finished with silane rather than Volan. The reason for my switch to silane finished glass is I wuld like a clear product rather than a green tinted glass that the volan produces. Any body have experience with this problem?

The current silanes are perfectly epoxy compatible. It should not be the cause. Any other parameters that changed? Type of glass, filament diameter, pressure, etc.

Hi Herman, same glass style icluding yarn, filament size and weave. The silane finished glass does take longer to wet out however it appears that the glass is fully infused. Pressure is the same and curing temps are the same. Post cure (150 C) the product has a 66/44, fiber/resin content. That works fine with the volan finished glass but maybe it’s too lean for silane?

Since the silane glass does not wet out as quickly I might try letting the infused product sit for an hour or two under vacuum before starting the cure.

Thanks

Fiberglass treatments do have a life expectancy. They can go bad over time or if they have been stored improperly.

Are you using a tighter weave? That can slow infusion and wet-out.
