Degassing Resin in larger amounts

I tried to look up how people are going by degassing large amounts of resin (epoxy). I have really only seen smaller amounts done as I have as well. My part takes about 1.25 gallons of resin and I use a 5 gallon bucket for mixing.

I found today 15" green gasket sewer pipe that I could put a cap on the bottom and get a thick piece of acrylic for the removable lid. This seems like the best affordable bet?

When doing larger parts do people usually just make up smaller amounts or what am I missing?

Not familiar with green gasket sewer pipe. Is it PVC?

yea its pvc

i see this and it would barely fit a 5 gallon bucket in it

I use Best Vac’s stuff and have reordered from them as well. They’re products are really good and very reasonably priced. They fill orders fast too.

what is the most resin you have degassed at a time?

A large PVC pipe will implode. I know from personal experience
I wrap PVC pipe with CSM and VE to make my own degas pots. Wrap the bottom too. I use polycarb for the lid.

hmmm, I have been using my 8" for some time now with no problem. its a lot thicker, stronger than the normal black, white or gray PVC

A small pot like 8 inches is fine. OP was asking about larger quantities of resin. I was talking about large pots… 400 mm PVC stormwater pipe with an 8 mm wall.

ah yeah, I want to move up to 12" you think that will not hold up then. It does get a really large reinforcing cap on the bottom

I had a 10 inch pipe collapse in my workshop. I was standing beside it with my hand on a valve on the lid. It imploded with such speed that all the pieces of pipe bounced off one another then flew out. I wasn’t hurt but I was finding shards of PVC all over my workshop for months after.

Raxton, I’ve degassed about a gallon at a time. But the materials that Best Vac sell are so convenient and cheap I don’t know why you would do anything else. I tried getting my own pots and crushed one. Best vacs stuff will hold up and it didn’t cost anymore than the failed pot I bought. They have about a 3/4" lid with it too. Believe me I’m not working for those guys I just think they have a good product.

Yea Ro, I think I am with ya on that. I found a pot at Cash & Carry today that looked like theirs for $40. But not sure if it would implode.
