Hello,
I recently did try to degas my resin with viscosity around 940 mpa.s
and the result of the resin after i degased it was a lot of tiny bubbles instead of less bigger ones but the overall picture was not something crystal clear like i see in youtube videos… the procedure i did was that i put the container inside the self made chamber applied vacuum until i heard the change in noise let it there for around 10 seconds and then i closed vacuum and opened the lid… it did also rise up to the walls of the container about twice the height of the resin at the bottom… Did i do something wrong ? maybe the vacuum was not 100% ?
Maybe the viscosity of the resin didnt allow the air to fly away although i applied vacuum ?
Is there a chance i make more problems to myself by doing this procedure than goods ?
After i opened the lid of the chamber a small cloud of smoke went out as if something big happened inside there … and after 15 min the pot where i had the resin inside melted …i had big exotherm reaction
what resin was it? epoxy? poly or vinly?
What kind of resin was it ? I gues it was poly based on the smoke. What’s the potlife of your resin? If you did what you tell us you didn’t degas at all. Degas your resin untill it collapse and after that another 10 a 15 min. If you can’t see your resin true a clear top it’s hard to degas a resin at the normal way.
ok …then i didnt degas at all because after it collapsed i waited for around 10 sec and took it off…but the problem with rtv silicones i use and the resin is that the pot life they have is around 15-20 min silicones less about…10 min so how can i degas 10 min something with the same pot life?
the resin was epoxy
Degas at first without hardener or catalyst then degas a short time after adding hardener or catalyst. Length depends on pot life.
Why degas before including catalyst ?
I thought that the bubbles i want to remove is the result of the
Mixing procedure of the catalyst and the resin… a static bottle
Of resin souldnt have any bubbles inside … or not ?
There are lots of bubbles in the resin without catalyst. Just try degasing some and see. I degas for as long as 2 hours sometimes.
