I would like to use C/F on an upcoming little project. I need to piece the corners together out of a few pieces to make the sharp radius lay down without bubles or wrinkles. How do you cut the sheet to obtain a nice finished look before lay up? Special tools?
first what is your layup???
are you open molding or some sort of closed molding?
I’m thinking it is open mold… one side… lay down some resin then the material, resin more material etc. air dry no vacuum.
If your part line is going to be in the middle of that corner…figure out what angle you want to have the nice line.
Use some very very low tack tape and cut your carbon or just be really carefull when you cut it.
Lay it in and then youll have that sharp parting line.
Or you can do like me…if youre carefull.
Lay in your carbon and use an extremely sharp exacto and cut across it and carefully pull the edge up.
I make sure to have at least and inch or two of waste so it doesnt fray as badly. That and my surface coat is pretty much dry before I put in the carbon, it has a slight tack to it.
Thanks Hybrid
Are you C/F finishing guys polishing the epoxy to a shine or clearcoating the surface finish of the part? I was just trying to figure out a way to save time… polishing seems like more labor than clear coating?
