Cutting and sealing Carbon Fiber component

I apologize in advance for the simple question, but I need to cut a carbon fiber component, and I’m looking for the best way to seal the edges against moisture, etc.

I purchased a spoiler from Carbon Creations, and after some calls I was told they use Polyester Resin and a backing material in the process of making their spoiler, but they neglected to tell me that they no longer cut a hole for the 3rd brake light, leaving it to me to fabricate my own mount. I would like to know how to seal the cut edge once I have the hole in the shape I need it to be so the part doesn’t get damaged from being left out in the elements.

Any advice is appreciated.

Not difficult. Once your done sanding the cut edge ,say with 80# then down to 220-320# papers…just activate a small batch of polyester resin from O’reilly’s or Autozone. Then carefully apply it to the edge. If need be, sand to blend in and polish.
You could even cheat and use clear nail polish but it is a band-aid fix only.

You shouldn’t have any moisture infusion of the resin. Many parts are cut, and used, no extra clear coating/paint etc. If you need a shiny finish, you can use a clear coat, spar urethane, etc.
Unless the part has a wood core, or open cell foam…then yes, seal it with a resin/paint.
