Hey,
i am starting my first thread here so i hope i don´t make to much mistakes in writing in this forum (If this is the wrong sub forum please move the thread).
To make one statement clear: I´m not a complete newbie in the composite world nor am I the master in composite manufacturing. To wrap up my experiences I can say that i have done an internship (not sure if this is the right word (“practicum”)) in a composite business which produces prototype wings for wind turbines. My Hobby, the R/C models gave me also some experiences in laminating wings and other simple forms.
But now I got to a point where I wanted to make my own Custom In Ear Monitor (in advance i call them “CIEM”) with a Carbon Shell.
For anyone who doesn´t know what im talking about I put a link to a picture here: http://www.minerva-hearingprotection.co.uk/Z/siteimages/Custom%20In-Ear%20Monitors%20South%20Wales%20Echo%2029.03.2010.jpg
And one with Carbon like the one i wanna build: http://www.jhaudio.com/product/sirens-roxanne
But now to get to my problem. These are hollow shells and i don´t know how to get my carbon laminate to this form. Another Problem are the heavy undercuts on the ear canal side. Any ideas? If you have more questions just ask. The only thing i wanna add is a picture of the normal process to make them: http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/09/westone-lab-tour-how-in-ear-monitors-are-made-from-impressions/
Watch the video if u want to from 5:30 the rest is just interviews.
Lovely,
Andi
