Curing tempreture??

In the workshop I work in we cured gel coats, and lay ups in an oven with a low output heater, the heater decided it was time to move on last week. Gel coats an lay ups took 8 hours roughly to cure.

We replaced the original heater with a convection heater, which on its lowest setting is a decent bit hotter than than the old heater.

As a result gel coats and lay ups have been at least 60% cured in less than an hour, I was wondering is there any potential dangers with this faster curing time??

The only potential danger is fire, but I am sure you are already taking the proper precautions. Other than that it affects the quality of your part a little bit. If the resin doesn’t have enough time to react with the air while curing, what you end up with is a more brittle part. Parts that take longer to cure is more flexible and less prone to cracking or breaking. What I would do is set the heat at around 80F max initially. Once the part gels up or B-stage, you can kick it up a little bit more to around 100-115F. 8 hours is not that bad considering the part does not fully for a few days. Sometimes even weeks.
