Can you use a gas grill to cure your epoxy part if it is in a closed mold? I don’t have an oven that I can use but I do have a gas grill. New to composites so be easy on me. Hope it’s not a dumb thing to ask!
I think your kitchen oven might work better? I’m guessing the gas grill temp control isn’t near as precise. (Not that your home oven is going to be spot on either). Your wife might not appreciate it as much as you though…
What are the properties of the resin system you’re using? If it’s a RT curing resin system, then it’d be better to keep it in the mold and just put it out in the sun on a hot enough day. If it’s not an RT curing system…then you should have a proper oven ;).
If it’s cold up in your region, another option is to throw it into a closet with an electric space heater. Just be careful not to burn down your house
I built my own curing oven last month.
First I did the steel frame - 25mm square tube. it is rather a big oven that i planned with measurements of 1300 mm x 1000 mm x 600 mm.
Second step was to cover the steel frame with galvanized plate to make a box.
Thereafter I used 1000g woven fibreglass cloth to insulate the outside layer of the galvanized plate. Once done I rounded it off with isotherm for insulation.
The mechanics was rather simple – 1000 w oven element with thermostat control unit and a hot air blower unit from http://www.ebmpapst.com
My next upgrade would be to purchase a digital pid f/c ssr thermostat temperature controller as per thread: http://www.compositescentral.com/showthread.php?t=9121
My curing oven is working fine since I only go up to 80 degrees Celsius.
Hi if possible can you please share pictures of the oven
thanks
I’m wanting to do this as well… was gonna use rock wool insulation for the inside. I’ve seen the controllers on ebay for cheap, but mc master even has one as well.
What heating element did you use?
don’t cure stuff or do chemical work in your oven you cook food in… duh
I always vacuum bag my turkey’s so it’s cool
