Core Material

I was thinking about using the Baltek Coremat for sale by fiberglasssupply.com in a PER/CF infusion. Anybody know how it performs in that type of application? It comes in 2mm and 4mm thicknesses and is a non-woven fabric filled with microbaloons. Just curious. Mostly about how it works in an infusion…

Ive used it in hand layups only. Only thing I can say for sure is that it will absorb a lot of resin.

exactly right. Obviously, a cheaper material will make heavier weaker parts. Go buy some nomex…

Yea, but the secret is to only bond the core mat to one surface and then lay another on top without the core soaking up all the resin.

But in a VIP…?

If this core mat is thick, make the edge cuts at an angle too.

Is aluminum honeycomb core able to be bent in a brake press or by hand bending? I need a stiff core material that can take a 35 degree bend.

neBermind … i decided to just use some 19oz c/f . Still it would be interesting to know if aluminum honeycomb core can take a bend and hold it and offer good strength at the bend location.
