Cordless scissors

I was at Home Depo today and saw these cordless scissors.

www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGuide/Product-Details.aspx?ProductID=10973

They were $30 while Fibreglast has a simular tool for $100.

The box said it can cut canvas, denium, vinyl tile, ect. I’m sure it would cut fiberglass.

Has anyone tried these?

Fibreglast is a great site, but their prices are not very good. I bought the same scissors for $69 at http://www.mygoodscissors.com/ElectricCutter.htm

You can try the Home Depot ones if you want, but I would highly recommend the preferred brand. They are awesome.

Got mine from Jamestown Distributors for the same price love them!

i’ve been using them since my wife bought a pair for my birthday last year.
They are great

I would defo invest in the consew EC electric cutters if you are doing any decent amount of composite work, amazing things just slice through kevlar. Everything else seems to blunt up pretty quickly!!

Lowe’s has them for about half the price as Home Despot. I picked up one last week. Zips through the carbon fiber quite easily. Gets tangled up in biaxial glass fabrics though. Don’t know how long they’ll last cutting heavy fabrics.

You wuszzes… use a hand shears to get a manly hand grip! :D:D

with the black and decker, its hard to find just the blades. i went through all the blades it came with going through tons of carbon. they loose the sharpness QUICKly. i might invest to the type that you can get more blades

Masochist!

I think points #2 & 3 apply to using hand shears to cut large amounts of fabric!

mas·och·ism (ms-kzm) n.

  1. The deriving of sexual gratification, or the tendency to derive sexual gratification, from being physically or emotionally abused.
  2. The deriving of pleasure, or the tendency to derive pleasure, from being humiliated or mistreated, either by another or by oneself.
  3. A willingness or tendency to subject oneself to unpleasant or trying experiences.

you can get ec-scissors from northern fiberglass for about 70, and replacement blades for 20

I bought a pair of Fiskars Razor sharp scissors, they are going dull after cutting not much material. I use them to cut 10oz fiberglass, some 1.5oz f/g mat, and then 6 oz carbon fiber twill.

I’m not ready yet to spend such a large amount of cash on “kevlar” hand siscors. Are they really any better?

What materials will the EC-Cutter cut?

just get the pizza cutter style cutters for glass like olfa brade, use this for all glass and carbon. and use your good scissors only for kevlar, and get a pair of ec’s, they are the shit for bagging materials

yeah, i need to sharpen a few pairs of scissors i have here too.

I’ll look into the olfa cutter… no money for the EC right now.

The Olfa rotary cutters work well if you have the proper cutting surface. Anything soft, LDPE, plywood etc., they push the fibers into the cut surface where they get stuck. LDPE is supposed to heal itself but ends up with plenty of little fibers sticking out of it. You can’t cut on glass or anything like that it’ll dull the blades in minutes.

Not sure I’ve found a good surface to cut on yet, still looking.

lemme send you a sheet of SpectraSheild 2…then talk about manly handshears!!

HAHAHA…

Send it on big boy! I have lots of tools for fools here…:stuck_out_tongue:
