Converting compressor to vacuum pump

I have a porter cable compressor that someone gave me. I has a busted tank on it and it is too expensive to just buy a new tank. The motor and compressor work fine.

Is is possible to convert the motor and pump into a vacuum pump. My guess would be to remove the filter on the intake side and connect my vacuum line to the intake. Sounds pretty simple and I guess would work. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone ever used a compressor like this? It is a 150 PSI pump and will pump at 4.7 CFM. I would think it could pull a full vacuum pretty easily.

Thanks,
Chris

Not sure. If it is meant to compress air, it might pull a vacuum and strain itself too much or something. The air inflow might cool the system, but if it’s not pumping air through, it might over heat.
Also, if the compressor was not rated for continuous duty, you can’t leave it running all night.

Eh, if you got one laying around you aren’t working, might as well try and see what happens.
