Continuing Moderators

Hi,
If you plan on moderating the forums still please post here! I’m trying to make the site more secure so I will be demoting inactive moderators. I really need the help and I really would appreciate it.

For those curious here’s a little about me.
I’ve taken over the forums since JM has some personal issues. He shut the site down briefly but I liked it so much here I couldn’t let it die. I myself am a student right now and I’m earning my bachelors in mechanical engineering. I hope to someday be a composites expert and join the ranks of the professionals here.

I really hope you all come back and stay active. It makes the forum more interesting and lively for the rest of us!

Sincerely,
Canyon

  1. What the heck happened to the site, and did ownership change?
  2. Where’s JM?
  3. How/why are you now an admin?

Interesting changes around here. Trying to find time to update some info on the forums.

Hey Tet!
I’m so glad you’re back. You’re one of my favorite members and I couldn’t bring myself to demod you in hopes that you’d come back even though I demodded everyone else.

So here’s the answer to your questions. The site went down suddenly with no explanation. After a few weeks I decided to ask JM about it and he told me that he had let the forums die because he didn’t want to bother with maintaining it or paying the hosting fee. I asked him if I could take it over and he said that’d be fine. So I went to his house, did a backup and transferred it all from JM’s Dreamhost account to my Hostmonster account. The forum has now been transferred to me since JM is busy with his personal life.

I’m now an admin/owner because I’m paying the hosting and domain name fees and maintaining the website. I’ve put a lot of work into it already, maybe a 100+ hours, and I intend on having this site provide both the best information and experience/interface for it’s users.

I’ve made a lot of changes in the backend and I’d like to familiarize you with them sometime.
I hope this didn’t come as too much of a shock to you. I also hope you don’t mind staying on these forums. You are one of the nicest and most helpful I’ve met online and I would really glad if you to continued to be a part of these forums.

Cool, thanks for the info.

If you’d like to eliminate all costs on your end for the site, let me know. I’d buy a new domain name and cover all hostings costs, you can continue to run it.
I asked JM if he was going to let it go, last time he went to my tooling shop, but said he was going to keep it going. Didn’t get a chance to contact him when the site was down.

I have no problem sticking around here, just trying to find the time in addition to working 30 hours a day!

Yea I dunno what happened but when I went to his house he said he was cutting down on extraneous projects. Nonetheless you me and JM are the only mods now. I demoted the other registered site admins, moderators and super moderators to regular users to increase the security of this site.

it says i am still moderator but i cant see the extra bits i used to have? i keep getting spam pm’s and cant ban them?

That’s weird. The mysql database doesn’t show that you’re a moderator but it shows up here. Let me fix that right now. Sorry for the trouble

thanks,i see it back again now but when i log in it says i entered an incorrect password but if i then click the ‘tabs’ button it shows me as logged in?! weird…

Clear your cookies and log in again. Vbulletin has a wonky cookie system.

Also I’m not sure if you saw this above but I made changes to user pms which should eliminate spam pm.

I logged into my admin page, but it’s missing nearly everything that used to show up.
Did some of the settings or software change? Am I supposed to click somewhere else to get to it?

I don’t think I’ve removed any features for the Admins, I’ve only added more. One thing though is I don’t know if Ive seen the admin panel that you and JM have seen for however long this forum was up. I’m just hoping everything transferred intact since I have no previous reference.
The only thing I did was change the original url so it no longer is the default. This shouldn’t change what’s inside though?

What features are missing? Let me see if I have them missing too

I double checked the usergroups and you and I are in the same one so we should have equal access to the forum. You can verify this yourself!

I apologize for the issue though let’s see if we can get this sorted out.

Tet,
Did the issue fix itself or is it still causing you problems?

This is all I get when going into the admin panel. There used to be a long list of things on the left, if only I had taken a screenshot then…
Things like usergroups, permissions, forum manager, etc.

Check now Tet. I couldn’t find the options in the my admincp so I edited the physical configuration and database directly to give you the same permission configuration as me. So basically your access to this forum is now a carbon copy of mine. I think this should have fixed your problem. Could you check when you get a chance because I was messing with the files this forum is running on and I’m not sure if I broke something, I’m not even sure if it worked because I can’t check it myself. I’m really sorry about the problem I have no idea what caused it, but my guess is that when I moved the default locations of the panels the correct permissions didn’t follow

Also I’m deleting your image since the new location is shown in the address bar. I saw your problem though.

Tell me if it worked or not.

Thanks for letting me know!

Cack to normal now, thanks. Now I can help members again when they PM me with issues!

BTW, the image might show the address, but it won’t work without a password anyways.

Yea definitely I know but I like the two levels of security, the hackers won’t know the address for the login index, and on top of that they won’t know the password!

I’m glad it’s all back to normal. I made a database and sitebackup so if you have issues I can at least restore it.
