It’s freezing in N.Y. Last night it was below 13 F. Now the spare room that I work out of is never above 55-60 F. And soon i’ll be working out of my garage and it will be cold if not freezing in there. Now when I am working in my spare room I do add 10 more drops of MEKP to anything that i’m mixing just in case. I have never had a problem with resin, primer, or even the gelcoat. But I was wondering how I deal with outside tempertures dropping under 32 F? How should I go about it, add more MEKP like have been doing or install a small heater? And If I do a heater source, what kind should I use? I don’t want to blow up my garage!
use electric baseboard heaters.
You can add MEKP to compensate for the room temperature but only to a certain point. If it’s too cold like you said it is now, the part probably won’t cure properly. It’ll generate its own heat from the extra catalyst, but too much of it and you’ll end up with a higher shrinkage rate. The part will also be more brittle after it’s cured. See if there’s anything you can do to heat up the work area a little bit more.
Thanks for the advise. By the way thanks for the shippment of CF.
