Clear metal flake gel coat

How do you guys use it? I want to spray it but its tough. I want to reduce it, and I try, but it thickens up again after a min or two… I catalize it at 2% with mekp. I use the clear metal flake from express composites.

They recommended this over duratec because of the UV resistance and clarity of it.

I’m using it to make cosmetical carbon fiber parts.

P.S I also ordered duratec high gloss gel coat additive. I was told it will reduce it nicely. What ratio should I mix it to?

You can do a 1:1 or 10% by weight.

I was told the same thing. 1:1 if I’m spraying over cured parts, 10:1 if its for in mold applications. I’ll try cheating and do 10:2 and then layup in B stage. Its a PETA to spray this stuff out of a clear coat gun… I am contemplating using a gel coat gun, however most of the amounts we mix at a time are no more than four ounces at once. I may try to modify a mini gun and bore out the tip.

Its easier spraying gel coat from a HVLP gun with a 2.0mm, 2.2mm, or 2.5mm Tip and nozzle.

What is metal flake? If its what i use when im custom painting and get from housr of kolor or something else

^ I’m not sure why its called clear metal flake… There aren’t any flakes in it. Its just a clear gel coat. I guess it was designed to be used with metal flakes? But then again most of us who make cosmetic parts use materials that are intended for other uses.
