Clear coat paint or epoxy resin finish for motorcycle part?

Title says it all. I vacuumed bagged a nice fairing for my old Honda CB, and now I’m deciding what is the better path to take. I want a real glossy look. I’ve used epoxy in the past for the gloss look, and it did not go on as smooth as I thought,(didnt self level) but tips would be appreciated. Thank you.

The epoxy will yellow in time due to UV, auto clear coat is your best method.

What if UV was not an issue? Such as indoor products…would you still recommend Auto Clear coat or Epoxy?

…Also I hear people say to try to put surf board resin on as a clear coat. Any input?

A 2k automotive clear will spray on super glossy straight from the gun. Depending on what you want that May be fine, much less finishing work in that case. Or you can buff & polish if you want it smooth like glass. I’m not familiar with any special gloss epoxy resins, but my gut says that nothing will be as glossy as 2k clear.

I would use PPG 2000 series clear coat. I use it all the time. The new 2000 or 3000 work good but I prefer the DCU 2002 high solids clear. You will probably get pin holes. So coat it sand and then coat again.

Any thoughts about spraying an epoxy compatible poly gelcoat on the mould?
