Clear Coat in Mold for infusion

So after getting too many pin holes in the carbon parts i have done, i am looking to switch to infusion. But i had a few questions maybe some of you guys could answer.

  1. Is there a recommended in mold clear coat that is UV resistant?
  2. Does it need to tack up or fully harden first before laying up the carbon?
  3. If so can it be applied to a polyester primer without pva?

Also any other suggestions on getting a pinhole free infused part would great

I took a different approach. After countless waste of cf and resins, I finally give in a tried the MTI hose. For a beginner, it is very forgiving of the noob mistakes. Couldn’t get pinholes all gone til I tried the hose. Pulled my first part and it was flawless. O yea and don’t forget to degas. I’ve had only failures without degassing. But others have had success. Like I said, I’m a beginner

As for uv clear, I decided to worry about it after infusion. That way it didn’t matter that much if the surface wasn’t shiny. I was gonna lightly sand and spray auto uv clear after.

Here’s some pics of the product before clear coat. Infusing a panel as we speak so I will post the result in a day.

Just pulled this one out of the mould. Gonna clear coat it after I cut the part out.

Try the In mould coating from German Advanced Composites. Works perfect with infusion and epoxy

Great looking part!!

ok i bought the mti hose but not the in mold coating. i want to see how well the initial part comes out first.

If the hose works i may go back and remake some of my other parts that have pin holes.

any other suggestions that would help get “perfect” parts? how much vacuum should i pull?

Read the MTI hose thread in products talk. But the most important things are:
1: 100% vacuum tight bag (it’s all about practice)
2: absolute vacuum <20mbar
3: degassed resin

if you then use the MTI hose you will get a perfect part.

Duratec has some good clear.

Here is the fender mold (yes it is coated, sanded and waxed already just not shown). Should i just run the hose along the outside edge and feed from the center out? Thoughts?
