I have some carbon fiber that was vacuum bagged ( it was a hand layup put into a vacuum bag to make it tight on corners ) , but when i took the carbon out and cut the extra ( shouldn’t have ) it put glass particles on the carbon, with tiny hair like strands on it. Would denatured alcohol be okay to use to clean the carbon? Or am i just out of luck with this one?
So after everything was cured, glass strands are on the face of the carbon? Should they not just slide off? Sounds like it isnt cured or was there before you trimmed.
Acetone, IPA should work to clean a surface but not if the strands are embedded
I haven’t applied epoxy over the carbon yet, it was a hand lay up in a vacuum, I trimmed the excess carbon and it looks strands went onto the raw carbon. I could individually grab each piece but it would take forever. So I was wondering what I could spray on a rag and wipe the carbon with
So you just dry stacked the carbon, bagged it to get it into the corners, then removed the bag and the dry carbon and trimmed it?
If that’s the case, I would say just put a fresh layer of carbon down for the surface layer. Wiping the carbon with anything is only going to distort the weave or fibres, and very likely won’t remove any of the fibres you are trying to remove.
