CF Bumper

It´s not yet ready as you can see. I have to trim the edges and put it back to mold. Then I can finish it  I´m pretty happy with it so far, there are few flaws though.
I used 2 layers of cf. First layer is made from one large piece and the second layer is made using several smaller pieces. After trimming I´m going to laminate one more layer of cf and some honeycomb to give it more strength. It will be quite flexible but also very light.

That came out nice.
Post pics when it’s painted and installed!

Yeah, it may take a while  My car is going to have lots of carbon

And some more

And one more

yummy…

Wow, impressive. Did you also make the molds yourself? The parts look good.
In that case, it wouldn’t look bad without paint. As long as everything is carbon, it will be nice. How about doors? We lose about 40lbs per door on our cars by going to carbon.

Those look nice,I wish we could see them in natural sunlight though. Half the fun is seeing the dancing weave. They appear to be open mold wet lay-up rather than Infusion ?
…V’

wow…you have got some mad skills. Good work!

looking good

Yes they are open mold wet lay-up but I used vacuum bagging also. For my next parts I will try the vacuum infusion method since it should be considerably better. The molds are also made by me using fiber glass. I still have to make the rear bumper and the trunk so I’m not sure if I have the time to make the doors. We’ll see

Oh, and thanks for the compliments!

any chance of posting pics of your bumper and fender mold?

Looks like a 240SX your working on. Nice work.

Here´s bumper mold. Fender mold is very similar, I don´t have any pictures of it at the time.

Another pic

lookin really good… im hopin you are able to do the doors too… my CRX HF could use some… lol:rolleyes:

looks awesome!! is the mould made of cf too? or does it have a layup in it? i would love to know how you successfully made that bumper…

The mould is made of fiberglass. In the picture bumper is in the mould. Its´s trimmed and waiting for some cf  I wanted to make seams to curves so you can´t tell where they are.

In this picture it´s just taken out of the mould for the last time. Lot of work still left.

im very impressed… it looks really good… are you laying gelcoat in the mould before casting? or are you just wetting the cloth in a dry mould? wet mould?

keep up the good work!

Im impressed…thats a pretty complex part.

Good job!
