carbon sleeve

this question is targeted for evan. can you get sleeve in 1/4 and up sleeve? i can but i need a better price than what im getting. also can you get it in different colors. that i havent seen. maybe in hex? just wondering.

I’ll call and ask. A fellow called me up a while back and offered to trade me sleaves for carbon cloth. I didn’t plan to sell any so I passed up on it. Other than glass, carbon graphite and carbon/kevlar, I haven’t seen any other variations of the sleeve. I know a place that can custom weave them but you’d have to purchase the entire roll which is 100yd minimum.

Evan

right, i understand and i have a supplier who has alot of it and sells by the yard but its very expensive that way. thanks.

The only price breaks I’ve seen on braided sleeve are if you by it by the pound. Obviously the larger the the diameter, the less yardage you get per pound. To buy it from one manufacturer, you have to order 10 or more pounds. I have seen one supplier that will sell a minimum of 1 lb. at a reasonable price (~$100) depending on the diameter.

I am looking for prepreg, and came across a few places with sleeves. Just do a search online, you might find some deals there…

What type of prepreg and what quantity are you looking for?

FOUND SOME YELLOW CARBON KEVLAR SLEEVE WTF WAY COOL TOO EXPENSIVE> can be found at www.sollerpaddles.com in the composite store area… EVAN can you get this? in other colors?

I don’t see any Carb/Kev sleeve on the site, and even the 50" yardage isn’t much more than here.
err…

I can’t browse that site. Whoever designed that site needs to find a new profession. No offense to sollerpaddle as a company though. I see them selling it on Ebay as well.

No kidding its impossible to navigate around on that site. It took me a few minutes for my eyes to even adjust so I could tell whats goin’ on.

website is crazy but he does at some times have great deals. i have ordered from him a half a dozen times on ebay for twill and got it like 3 days later. great service. i wonder where he gets that stuff. i was going to get some sleeve a while back but didnt have the funds to buy enough for my project because it was so expensive. do you think you can find it evan??? ill email jon soller later.

doesn’t aerosleeve carry it?

im not sure if they do all i saw was regular carbon. jon soller was telling me that he can get it in any color. he gets it by the roll or has to pay a premium for small orders so maybe if people would like to pitch in and buy some we can all get a good price. im interested in different colors

let me talk to my supplier in the morning

We currently list 2" carbon fiber/kevlar sleeves (biaxial weave) for special order here:
http://www.aerosleeves.com/order/?material=kevlar

This sleeve will expand and contract to fit surfaces between roughly 0.5" to 2.4" in diameter (our site lists the change in length at the approximate minimum and maximum diamters).

If you’re looking at a larger order (10+ yards), you can contact me about details on volume discounts.

Jeff Holman, Aerosleeves

Thanks for the info Jeff. For some reason I figured someone from Aerosleeve might drop by.

Absolutely! You can mention Aerosleeves without hearing from us

someone should do a write up making tubing from a mold using a blatter.

I am going to order some and give it a try. I want to make my intercooler pipes with these.

what kinda deal can you swing me for 50 yards of carbon, PM me please

ive seen two ways to do tubing. first having a mandrel that has a slight taper and doing it with that and for complex tubes with bends ive seen two piece molds where you lay carbon sheet and then sleeve it. ie ill try to make a diagram.

Mold 1 carbon carbon Mold 2

( << l l >> )

carbon laid into the molds and then the carbon is trimmed and then sleeved.

two piece carbon tube then sleeved

            () << O

i hope this is good enough to understand

I kinda had an idea of how to do it, but yes that helps. I have made pipes out of fiberglass before with a bladder and it turned out pretty good, not worth the time made in the molds for the product, but since I already have a couple tube molds I wanted to try the sleeves and see what happens
