Carbon lay-up tutorial?

Ok, sorry for my noobish question.

Does anyone have a good, beginners guide to laying carbon fiber up, including materials needed, step-by-step?

I found this, and seen as I will be using a male mold it should be similar, http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/carbon-fiber-motorcycle-parts/

are the steps outlined correct?

I have a host more questions if this one gets answered lol

Thanks,

Ben

I won’t lie to you, that site uses the sledgehammer approach to composites. There are much better places to do your learning.

It looked like he started out making an overlay…and then popped the part out of the overlay, and instead built the overlay up as the actual replacement part…not so good, since the sizing will be off! Also, the whole “vacuum” bagging procedure shown there is pretty much a bust.

Go through the “Articles and Tutorials” section of this site, as you’ll find all the information you’ll ever need there, Werksberg has done a great job on this place!

Also, check out the “Showcase” forum, do some searches, and see if anyone’s made anything similar to your project…by seeing how they’ve done it, you can learn a lot yourself! Good luck, happy learning, and don’t be afraid to ask questions…just be detailed when you ask them!

thankyou so much for your help, its very much appreciated.

hmm…using a vacuum cleaner to create a vacuum that equals 14.5psi on the part.

Well, if said vacuum can pull 29"!!!

My first ever vac bag project was done with a shop vac and a white trash bag:D I used a hot glue gun to seal the open end!

It was a 3 gauge + mini TV screen panel for my CRX. Came out rather nice, I had the screen and gauges on raised “platforms” like they do with speaker boxes and kick panels.
