Carbon Fiber Tubes

Hello all - first post…! I very much respect this forum and the help so many people have given others. I hope to return the eduction in the near future.

I have a question. I need to create some carbon fiber tubes to support a top in a marine application. I have a foam core that I’m going to slide the carbon fiber sleeve onto. There will be a bend in the foam - so should I go a little tighter so it doesn’t bunch up?

The foam is 6 mm wide. Should I go with a 5.5 wide sleeve or should I go with 6? Or am I doing it all wrong…! I’m sure I’ll need to provide more info -!

maybe if you posted a photo, hard to understand what you are doing

are you saying that you’ll use a braided carbon sleeve over foam? The sleeves come in various sizes and they can ‘grow’ or ‘shrink’ in diameter. If you look at the manufacturers website they usually will tell you what the max and min diameters are for a given diameter sleeve.

Buying tubes is much easier than making them. Available everywhere in many sizes.
