Carbon fiber over a body kit....>

Guys and Gals,

I have used fiberglass for several projects, and was wondering what you all would think of a carbon fiber body kit? I was gonna buy real CF and cover it…but I have no experience with that at all…

The application would be

I would redo the white in CF or going body color

thanks

Heya,

Welcome to the forum. I think a CF body kit would look sick for shows. I wouldn’t want to drive around with it though because you’re just asking for troubles.

CF is not all that much different from fibreglass. If you did that body kit yourself then you will have little troubles doing it in CF.

I’d recommend making a mold from your glass kit and make complete replacement pieces with CF instead of overlaying it. It seems like there’s more work involved, but you’re better off going that route. Overlaying your existing kit would mean that you’ll have to sand the top surface down smooth which is a complete PITA to do and even then you won’t get it perfectly smooth.

thanx for your reply evan…Sad to say…but I bought that kit…didn’t make it…but I’m seriously considering taking your idea and making a kit from CF…cost would be the only thing I would be worried about…hmmm…thanks for the comments

Cost is not going to be too bad. Then again I don’t know what your budget is. The only thing is it’s going to take time. I would give myself a full month if not two for that project. The most time you’ll be spending is on prepping the surface of your glass kit so that your mold will be perfect and making the mold itself. But once that’s done you can just start popping them out. You can even sell a few kits to recover your cost.
