Here is the carbon fiber model boats I am building. 55 in x 24 in. Using resin infusion. 2 layers of 5.7 oz cloth with soric honeycomb core in the top. 3 layers of 5.7 oz cloth and soric honeycomb in the bottom. This is a 1/6 scale unlimited class.
Those look pretty nice! Where at in Washington are you?
I’m in Spokane. I’ll have this boat up in Marysville WA next weekend 8-9th for the big Scale hydroplane race.
beautiful job ken. was there a weight savings over fiberglass?
Sorry, I haven’t been on here in a while. The original boat was wood and weighed in at over 11 lbs with no gear. The carbon version came in at 7.5 lbs. I could probably get one down to about 5 lbs for a straightaway record boat or something like that but I wouldn’t trust it to be able to handle the constant beating that heat racing puts on them. (mainly crashes)
Here are a couple other pictures of a green/black one I did and my 1959 Maverick all painted up. Maverick was clocked at 64.3 MPH on the radar gun the other day.
