Here is our next project :). We’re having marble tiles installed right now in the dining room and sitting room and we are working on installing carbon fiber tiles we are making in front of the front door.
Their not exactly tiles, but more like planks. Theyll be 68" long by 8" wide. In between each plank there will be a 1/8th inch strip of aluminum. Around the edge of the entire assembly will be an 1/8th inch strip of aluminum, and then coffee marble tile around that.
Our first step was picking premium grade wood. We spent an hour picking out 5 pieces and that ran us over $80. We rolled black epoxy over the wood and then left it to dry. Yesterday we left the wood in the grass for a few hours at night and it absorbed lots of moisture. Its Florida… You know what happens to wood in Florida. It warped now. Not bad, but enough to make me want to straighten it back out. How can I do this? If I cant, its not too bad because once its glued to the substrate, and then the substrate is nailed to the ground itl straighten out.
AFter this kink is worked out; the idea is to wrap each plank in carbon fiber, finish it, set it on the substrate with the aluminum, put it on the ground, build a frame, pour 3/16ths of an inch of epoxy over the top, then grind it all down till the carbon fiber panels and the aluminum are perfectly level.
I’ll post pictures as we go. It should take us about a week to finish. A little work every night.
