do the math
are most of these still running a spaceframe chassis? dont the scca have some rule that more aless stops building a carbon tub car for the D sports series?
Bugatti Veyron and even the EB110 are carbon tubs.
Umm, those have nothing to do with D Sport racing series!
Your correct about the space frame of the D sports racer.
I should have disclosed that in my post. But it did promote conversation.
The WF-1 seen in some of the photos have carbon panels fastened to the sides inside the bodywork.
This class remains a tinkerers type of racing to develop wings, floors, ducting, endplates, etc.
It’s a weight war on the cars at the pointy end of the pack. A lot of titanium fasteners and even some of the non stress points using plastic nuts & bolts.
Given the amount of track time involved in racing & testing they are bound to need repair and replacement parts. Repairs need to be very light weight and done correctly in a timely and low cost to the operator .
Having an array of Nomex honeycomb and all the materials can be costly to have in your work shop. When I stumble across a good deal on a surplus find of it, I snatch it up it might collect dust in the rafters for a few years. But when I need it, it’s worth it’s weight in gold.
tom is the WF-1 the car that was developed form the sthor? didnt lee sthor leave or sell up or something like that? some very nice bits on some of those cars. many are essentially single seaters with sports car bodywork. think formula ford but with downforce and more power!

I’ve done some work & crewed on the #0 car in the photos
Finished 3rd. last week at the SCCA 2010 Runoffs @ Road America. He had the fastest lap of the race 203.769
Another car that has a carbon fiber body that I take care of won 1st. Jaguar XKR GT-1 best time 206.677
If it wasn’t for my broken frigging leg I would have been there:(
(Formula Ford’s are how I came to do this stuff)
Man these cars are awesome
Roughly estimating how much do they cost to engineer and manufacture?
McLaren Mercedes SLR, Porsche Carrera GT, Aston Martin Vanquish GT1, McLaren F1
Ferarri F50, KTM x-bow, Mosler, Maserati MC12, Ferrari Enzo, Koenigsegg, Zonda, Lexus LFA, Porsche 911 GT1, Mercedes Benz AMG CLK GTR
the new McLaren MP12-4, the tub is built in Austria
In the UK there is a F1000 car built about half a mile away from my shop, the RFR (build by ex Van Diemen People) and that is somewhere around the £25,000 mark without engine. glass bodywork tho. Im not actually sure if carbon is aloud in the F1000 class. Dont know about the cost of a dsr but I would imagion that a car would be somewhere in the £45 - 50 K region with all the carbon and other bits on them, very simular to a F1000 car under the bodywork.

Not a complete car but they do sell bodywork for a dsr car, this guy is also on racingcomposites.net forum, Looks like he does good stuff from what i see on there.
A body set is $23k so I guess that would make sense with the £45k (ish) price i mentioned above.
^^ he is on this forum also.
