Carbon fiber airbox for my Monte

Well, I finally kinda finished my airbox for my 2001 Monte Carlo. I started our with a cardboard model then taped that little bastard all up with packaging tape so the fiberglass wouldn’t stick. Then put on 1 layer of fiberglass cloth, then one layer of carbon fiber cloth, and finally painted the inside a kinda black color (actually just a prime). I am testing it today and cutting down the sections that stand out.

Once I get everything finished to the way I like, I will try to figure out a cover. I have piece 1/16" lexan that I’ll cut to shape and maybe use some kind of weather stripping and cord to hold it on? Any suggestion would be great.

Not to bad for my first time working with the stuff, huh…lol

Heres some pics

Nice. How is the outside quality? I never had luck with bends like that and NOT have the CF sticking up and stuff.
I need to make a box (headlight housing), and I’m not sure if I want to vacbag it, or just deal with a wet layup. Of course, I’ll be using 10oz CF, not light 5oz 2x2

good job though!!

great job for a first timer…I’m practicing right now and hoping some molds that I make will not be a disaster…
