What’s the best way to degrease your CFRP surfaces before applying adhesive between them?
Aceton, sanding and aceton again?
Anything else?
Thanks!
soap. degreasing soap. acetone, thinner, etc, all thin out the grease, and you’ll spread it all over the place without getting much off. you could use a lot, and wipe with a clean dry rag before it evaporates. do it a couple of times. but it’s more work, and soap is usually a bit better for the health.
(and smells better, like my cleaning vinager, smells like citron, and cleans off epoxy way better than acetone
)
I think that thinner damages the epoxy?
not when cured, when exposed shortly. Otherwise it softens.
Soap or ammonia.
Don’t get grease on your parts.
I would start off with a good wash with soap, or degreasing cleaner. Acetone or alcohol. Sand, then water. You can try acetone after sanding.
Wet, wipe. Don’t let the acetone sit on the part and dry.
I use isopropanol after acetone to get that last bit of film off, which it leaves.
That works too, make sure it’s 95-97% IPA too, not 70%
