I am currently working on a carbon intake for my Nissan Sentra. I have built a female mold for it and was planning to use a bladder set-up, but have a couple of questions. While surfing through all the previous posts i saw carbon sleeve, and thought that might be a good way go since it is seamless and exactly the size I need (3"). How many layers would one need for sufficient strength (the maf mounts to it), or is it not possible to use more than one layer?
most people seem to use 3 layers
depends on what you want out of the product. Most of the time where it is a cosmetic piece I would use 2 layers of carbon and one glass or just 3 layers of carbon, the socks are pretty cheap if you buy bulk so all carbon would not kill the pocket book too bad
3 sounds good. Add an extra ply or two at the end where you mount the pipe
Thanks for the info. I have never used braided material and was unsure how stiff it would be as compared to the twill and uni i have used before. If you’re interested, pics of what i am trying to duplicate can be seen here http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=88310&highlight=cold+air+intake
I am most likely going to integrate the MAF sensor adaptor (the silver machined piece the sensor is bolted to) into the tubing so I can eliminate one of the couplers and associated clamps.
My god thats a clean engine I’m too embarrassed to show mine. How do you keep it so clean?
yeah no crap, mine is an oil and dirt depository!
well that is not my car, i just posted a link so you guys could see an example of what i’m trying to do. But my car is usually close to that in terms of cleanliness. I use a de-greaser from the local car dealer. It’s green in color, just spray on and hose off with a pressure washer.
