carbon cloth origin

Hi everyone,

Thought I would get some opinions in the forums… is there any difference between carbon cloth from Europe and Asia?
Any particular characteristics differences?

Thanks

Only what language is on the label on the packaging, and cardboard tube the fabric is wound on!

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. The reason I ask is that some so-called “tuning” companies use carbon fibre from say France…

I am however unsure of the logic or the reason behind it though… I do agree with you that there shouldn’t be any difference in them but perhaps quality wise?

I can only imagine that
1: They are trying to look cool by having a FRENCH fiber.
2: They can get better prices from a company there.

Carbon fiber is produced only by a few companies, and then sold to everyone else for weaving/impregging, etc. Hence the high prices of CF! Low supply.

But yeha, nothing special about where the CF is from.

I notice big differences between weavers, weaving quality can definetly change, carbon quality varys

Thanks for your rely…

Hojo … can you elaborate on weave quality and quality wise?

some carbon weavers will weave the carbon tighter then others, some carbon has been treated different and feel softer or stiffer. some will have more defects or distorted weaves. overall the strengths will be similiar with a standard modulus carbon, but their workability and cosmetics will vary between weavers

i agree with this! I love the stiffer carbon because for me it is easier to lay in the mold on tricky corners without distorting too much. I got some real soft fabric in yesterday, 50 yards and I returned it all because it was way too soft for me to work with
