Hi
Found a link to this site from another and thought I would register to gain and share knowledge.
First I thought I would introduce myself, Im an accountant so not in the composites industry and do this purely for pleasure / self punishment
I made my first moulds and part around 2 years ago and immediately progressed into the bodywork for my car (which was my intention from the start).
My parts are all resin infusion and often I have issues that end up with pinholes that I then have to try to resolve in the lacquer so I am still learning and improving.
I do vary the lay up depending upon application and make strong use of core materials like Soric and foam depending upon application… I also use different weaves of carbon along with kevlar.
The car was originally glass fibre so the bodywork sighed around 80kgs in all… I reduced that by a useful 45kgs whilst still beefing up areas such as the tub and doors.
I made the rear end as my first part before I realised I had the capability to get the weave nice hence it doesn’t match the rest of the car… car has a few coats of lacquer but isn’t yet properly lacquered so will be going into paint shop for proper finishing soon and the panel gaps are just thrown together until its properly painted. plan is to keep it lacquered carbon.
Incidentally entire weighs close to 1000kgs wet and has 700bhp
