Capristo carbon fibre production

…and I’m still making everything by hand…damn

What a huge waste of many for such a trivial part!

Invest in a CNC, scanner system, CATIA, and a roll or 2 of prepreg…EAAASY!

What? A bonnet hood? Not trivial at all. Saves weight.
And waste of money? How? They are a large manufacture, and people will pay for it. After the investment of the mold is complete, a few parts out, and their money is made.

They are listing the price on their website as $12,995.00 (US) unpainted… but no worries, they can paint it for $2,000 more

Those massive aluminum blocks for the mold were expensive i’m sure but riff is right, i bet they profit off just a few parts

13k$ for a freaking hood?!?!?!? It’s crap like this, that drives prices up. Rich people can afford to pay stupidly high prices, which causes others to mark their prices up. “Oh, someone is selling a hood really cheap? Must be crap!” Ugh.

The Aluminium was just the positive. The productionmoulds are carbon fibre. The price is including the glass, the carbon fibre airbix, the engine bay covers and some other small parts. So it always comes as a set.
And they made a lot of tests to get it road legal.

Getting carbon parts road legal isn’t that hard. At least not over here in the Netherlands. It’s mostly in the design.

It’s expensive, but all I seen in the video is expensive too. 3d scanners, autoclave, etc. Some a bit overkill, but it’s a Ferrari…

I like how they use dry peelply. Prepreg peelply is a pain in the *ss.

HAHA easy until the bill for Catia comes…:stuck_out_tongue:
But yes very easy if you have the tools and knowledge.

All together we talk about a 1.5million Dollar invest.
You have to make some more hoods to get the money back;)

Ah, ok. As long it wasn’t just the one piece!! WHOOo…

prepreg peelply? You mean, peelply with resin already in it??? Seems…daft.

Yes. I can Imagine applications where Vf is more critical, thin cosmetic pieces or so. But horrible to work with, both in laying up and in getting it off again. Dry peelply works much easier, and is just as good in most cases. and much cheaper, not the least.

Now I create this moment CNC to expand my experience. My CNC will be 1.20 x 1.00 x 40cm and honestly I think will be very usefull.

I’m also planning to build myself a cnc with those dimensions, about 1500/1700 x 800 x 30 cm…how you build it? I’m looking for aluminum profiles, heavy series 180x90 mm

I am using Aluminuim aerospace profile of 1.5cm depth. If you want more info’s take alook in this link: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/general_metal_working_machines/187958-3-axis_computer-numeric-control_cutting_aluminium.html

I will put more photos today :stuck_out_tongue:
