Can't find any composites fabrication schools

Hi all,

I am looking for some help finding a school, courses, training, or anything where I can learn something about composites with hands on experience.

I live in NJ and looking for anything either in New York or New Jersey.

Can anyone help lead me in the right direction. I am a complete beginner to the world of composites but would like to start making some simple parts for myself (and hopefully more advanced parts down the road). What I need most is hands on experience or someone to teach me in person.

I have a business background, I run an online business and am a motocross racer as well. I’m familiar with mechanical things as well although it’s not my strong point yet. I’m sort of busy individual but would like to learn something new.

Any recommendations? I tried Googling and came up empty. Pretty devasted right now.

This may not be local to you but they seem pretty professional.

I think you will find that in the US, composite production learning is something you do by working your way up or apprenticing. You can get a degree in composite engineering, but learning the basics of actual construction is usually done in the shop I think. I learned basics of composite construction working in boat yards and then as a laborer in a surfboard/sailboard shop. When I decided I wanted to get into moulded production, I learned from books and here.
I’m sure done of our us producers will chime in with a job offer soon:)

I’ll shoot you a PM.

Couldn’t send you a PM for whatever reason. Send me a message. I have a shop in NJ (south jersey) and we might be able to work something out.

Thanks AJHR, the south jersey area may be a bit far from me. I will consider it and let you know.

Btw, I ordered the book “Composites Materials Fabrication Handbook #1” by John Wanberg and can say this is the most amazing piece I’ve ever read on composites. Within 10 minutes I knew more from reading first few pages than looking at countless online videos.

It is very practical for garage type of fabrication where you don’t put too much engineering mathematics into the fabrication process.
