Can this be done?

Can i spray clear gel coat into the mold, infuse the part. its not going to be carbon but just fiberglass. then after that, pop the part out. and spray a grey auto primer over it!? i want to use the gel coat b/c when i use spray tach ad. the epoxy doesnt eat it =\

or, can i just spray auto paint right on top of the gel coat? will it bind and stick? or chip after time / heat?

err, thats how you are supposed to do it lol.

If you are going to spray gray gel coat or paint onto to the part after it is out of the mold, just get grey sanding PER gel coat, spray that into the mold before laying it up and save yourself many steps…amd MONEY too!

but will i be able to use the mold then after for a clear gel coat + carbon setup? i need to intermix.

there won’t be problems with that, if you use an epoxy surface coat (gelcoat) and then go to a PER gelcoat you might see curing problems if you don’t clean the epoxy off the mold

i dont use an epoxy surface coat. i use epoxy for both carbon and fiberglass parts. i also wanted to clear the air asking if gelcoat clear would stick well with epoxy and a lot have said yes. in its curing stages (b stage) epoxy and gel coat can bind well.
