Black is Checkerboard Plain Weave
White bar is plain weave with 3D woven preform.
White dome is 45 biaxial sock
Yellowish is Unidirectional.

What is a carbon join anyway?

im only guessing here, but i think whale is asking for photos of joints in final parts when the part was made out of 2 parts or more.
Such as a motorcycle tail fairing - left and right halves made separately and then joined once trimmed etc.

using different weaves?

eh, I guess that makes sense too.

That however, I do not have :-/

when I first saw this site a year ago there was a hood on here that had plain weave carbon and kevlar joined together in a vent. I can’t find where it is at

Is this what you are looking for?

http://www.uscomposites.com/hybrids.html

Can’t believe I’m contributing when I can’t even figure out how to go about making a part.

like this?

I like the weave/material of that last part. Anyone know where i can buy that cloth? It looks like mostly carbon with about 20% kevlar.

I think I remember what picture you are talking about. it was maybe an intercooler vent on the top of a hood, where the hood was CF, and the vent slates were cf/kevlar?

No idea what thread that was. I remember the discussion on how to get a seam though.

it was a E46 m3 that the pictures were on, a white one. I cant remeber the company that made the hood. I have seen it in real life as well. it was very well put together
