If this has been covered elsewhere, I’m sorry, but what is the procedure for bonding cured parts? If you can’t make the peice al at once, how would you bond the two halves together, and maintain the strength?
It depends on what you are making. Structual parts are normally designed so that there are mating surfaces to attach the parts. Parts are preped, roughened and cleaned, then joined with structual adhesives and riveted together. This is common in aerospace and race car industry. The parts normally get painted so the seam and rivets don’t matter or they are internal parts.
If you are doing cosmetic parts, ie making parts out of composite just for the carbon fiber look, it’s best you try to make the part in one shot. Otherwise trying to make the seam look clean will drive you crazy.
