Bond

Anyone got any idea’s of how I might bond these two parts together once I have layed the carbon.

I will be vac bagging the two parts and so I will have to bond the two together when cured. I won’t be able to get inside the mold to bond that way. The tank is in viny ester and must have a fuel tight seal.

So, this is a MC gas tank?

The orange is the 2 piece, clamp shell molds?

Maybe lay them up with a little extra wetted out CF on the flange, make a silicone bladder (which will stay inside the finish tank) and place in on the wet lay up, clamp the 2 mold halves together thightly, add air pressure (positive pressure molding) to the inner bladder to compress the laminate out to molds and let it fully cure.

Demold and you will have a small seam on the over lapped flanges to sand and finish before clear coating with automotive clear coat. The bladder should stay bonded to the wet resin sides but if ruptured, it SHOULD (don’t take my word on this at all…) retain the fuel inside?

Consider waste casting. There is a new product discussed on the forum called Aquacore. It may be perfect for you.

here is all I know about it. the people Ive seen that made tanks would make the bottom half and then lay it into the top half mold with a bunch extra over the flange and they would do a surfboard type layup to bond the two halves. Infused…I dont know how to answer that.
