blue mold release problem

i bought the one from icancomposites and it does the job nicely, but sometimes the mold release will leave behind that light blue foggy finish on the finished piece. from far away, the piece looks nice, but up close you can tell that it’s not exactly finished.

what do you guys do to avoid this problem? am i just not wiping enough when the wax dries? or am i rushing things? usually i’ll put a coat, wipe it off after a few minutes, and put one more coat and wipe that off.

im going to try lightly sanding the piece and then polishing it. hopefully it’ll get rid of the foggy finish.

I don’t think that’s a big issue. You always have to do some kind of finishing work on the part afterward. Unless the wax residue is embedded into the part then you haven’t wiped it off enough.

I only have a few cans left of the blue wax. After it’s sold out, I will be introducing a new mold release wax that totally owns. It does cost almost twice as much, but it’s bitching.

so finishing work such as light sanding/clear coat you mean?

the surface has a few bumps so i’ll do some sanding anyways and post some before/after shots.

btw what’s the new features on this new release you’re talking about? getting kinda curious :?

sometimes when i’m not totally sure that a piece will release from a new mold i leave the wax on. light wet sanding always takes the cloudiness away.

the wetsanding worked perfectly, thanks.

i’ve never had this problem before with the mold release, could the problem be that my mold release is getting too old? it’s been on the shelf for about 2 months or so now.

I don’t think it gets too old. Maybe you just didn’t get it all off the mold prior to layup.

ah ok, thanks for the info/help
