Black paste epoxy recommendations (10-30 min pot, <5hr cure), semi flexible

Hi guys,
Another dreaded ‘recommend me an epoxy thread’

Here is what I’m looking for. I need to bond two pieces of CFRP plastic together (epoxy based Gurit SP115). The epoxy (or whatever, if you recommend a silicone or acrylate with similar properties that’d be great) needs to be dark grey to black (it’s okay if it can be dyed) and have a pot/working life of at least ten minutes. It should be flexible enough to withstand slight impacts without shattering. It should be a paste consistency so it can be ‘spread’ onto the part.

I looked at Adtech EA-605, which is a lighter grey paste and can’t be dyed without contaminating volumes of pigment so that’s a problem for me. Their rep then recommended their marine pro bond system which is neutral in color and can be pigmented. He also recommended their EA-627 but it only comes in drum quantities so that’s outta the question :(.

Any recommendations?

TL;DR version:

bonding two CFRP epoxy panels
should be dark grey to black, or neutral and capable of being pigmented.
paste consistency
a little bit of flexibility - rather, not highly brittle.
10+ minute working/pot life; cure life ideally would be 3-5 hours then
easily purchasable size in the US (no drums!)

THANKS!

I’d have suggested Araldite 2014 or 2015.

2014 is a hard but extremely tough material. Its the right colour and will withstand significant knocks - but isn’t flexible or capable of filling large gaps.

2015 is much more flexible and capable of filling larger gaps. It is a neutral colour But should be pigmentable.

As for availability - should be, but hard to check from this side of the pond…

Hope this helps.

Check availability from the top down. (so start with Huntsman in the USA, asking them where to buy. Actually Huntsman is Texas based, so that can be an advantage.

Araldite glues are widely used in many industries, so very likely there is a range of non-composites suppliers that can help you.

Otherwise look into black pigmented MA310 or MA420 from Plexus.

Great, thanks guys. I ordered a 50ml tube of Araldite 2014 from Freeman Supply (21 bucks plus 10 shipping). I’ll get back to yall on it. Thanks!
