Better investment?

Ok I am a newb that REALLY wants to work with composites. I am interested in doing structural work. I have a mechanical engineering and materials science background so I understand the implications of the structural applications. I have a limited budget and this is meant as a hobby. The choices I am weighing are to either attend a training course or set up a shop and plow ahead on my own learning from books, video etc. I tried finding someone local in my area to learn from and that was a complete bust. So will I be better served taking a class or setting up shop and learn by trial and error?

Hi Rob, (Newbie to Newbie here)… I looked into some of the classes and the costs are pretty high, so I’m getting my “education” via YouTube, Google & Message boards like this one. That might seem a bit far out, but I believe the days of traditional classroom education are numbered. My own first infusions won’t be for a few more months yet, but I already feel very confident about the process. The folks on this board are really great! I’m sure you’ll receive some good answers to any composite question you might ask.

Post some pics and share your experience when you “go for it”.

You know the old saying:

Think education is expensive?

Try ignorance.

If you can afford the classes, you should go. The broad base of knowledge will afford you a solid foundation that will help the books and videos that come later to make more sense.

If not, all you can do is study, study, research, and study.
