"Best" Brands

Hey All,

I was just wondering what your favorite brands are for your resins- epoxy and polyester?

I use Pro Set epoxy because I got an awesome deal from a local shop here. Seems like great Epoxy brands are well known in the industry and in general, but what about polyester? What are your favorite brands?

Huntsman 3600 epoxy resin. Nice and thin to wet out well and 90 min gel time.

I have been using it for 25 years.

I was never cared much for Proset brand. They’re pretty generic with nothing spectacular. Maybe over recent years they have evolved… I always liked Gurit for epoxy systems, not because I work for them now, but they have pretty good systems like Prime20ULV for infusion, and good OOA prepregs. For PE/VE and other types of resins, Scott Bader is very good.

I’m also a big fan of the Prime 20LV and the Huntsman 3600. I’m actually not sure which I prefer, they both infuse extremely well. The 3600 actually infuses a little bit better which is interesting, but then the Prime 20 is extremely versatile with 4 or 5 different hardeners to give it different properties and pot lives. Both great systems anyway.

Have you tried the prime20ULV? Its much thinner viscosity than the prime20LV. I prefer it better personally

Have got some ULV hardener on its way to me as we speak, so will report back next week.

I’ve been using proset adtech 820 with 60 min hardener for over 2 years now. It degasses easy and seems to do the job. It’s pretty inexpensive for me too.

Yeh that’s one thing about the Prime 20 that isn’t great, it takes an age to degas if you want to. And I find its pot-life is realistically much shorter than what is quoted on the data sheet, because who sticks to a 150g mass?

Fortunately I’m not really a big believer in vacuum degassing, so Ive only really done it when playing around.

ULV degases much faster, and pot life is pretty long

my go to is PTM&W tech support is the best I have had in the last 45 years of my composite experience
