Basic question I'm embarrased to ask...

Ok, this is the basic of basics, but for whatever reason, I’m drawing a blank.

I have 3K 5.6oz cloth. That means it weighs 5.6oz per square foot, right? Not square yard?

So I should use 5.6 X 1.5 = 8.4 oz of resin per square foot? That seems like a lot. (which is why I’m asking the question).

For vacuum infusion for a part that is a wing skin, my cloth is 15" X 50", 3 layers thick. So 15 X 50 / 144 = 5.2 sq. ft. X 3 = 15.6 sq. ft X 8.4 oz = 131 oz of resin? So that would be just over a gallon of resin! No way.

What am I missing?? Thanks!

5.6 oz per sq yard. Only CSM goes per sq ft. You are driving the metric people nuts with that. (not wanting to turn this into a metric/imperial ranting thread, I already turned another thread into that)

Oh, okay. I feel much better now. (BTW, what’s CSM?)

So, with the data above:

15" X 50" /144 = 5.2 sq. ft X 3 = 15.6 sq. ft./ 9 yd per sq ft. = 1.73 sq. yd X 8.4 = 14.5 oz. of resin.

That sounds about right. Is it? :smiley: Thanks again!

Shouldn’t be embarrassed to ask. If you can grasp what you just mentioned, I salute you.

CSM = Chopped Strand Matt.
